Summary:

Energy Queensland has revised the labeling requirements for new consumer mains connected to underground service pillars. Under the updated guidelines per clause 8.2.2 of the QECM v4, previously accepted labeling methods, such as marking conduit with a Sharpie, are no longer suitable. Contractors are now required to use Telstra Tag / CAN-TAG 97/104, available in packs of 100 from electrical wholesalers and online stores, and ensure the street address is clearly written and attached with cable ties. For further information, contractors are advised to contact the MEA Tech Hotline.

Attention all Queensland contractors applying for new connections throughout the Energy Queensland network. Labelling requirements for new consumer mains connected to an underground service pillar have changed.

Energy Qld have recently changed their opinion on what they will consider a suitable label in accordance with clause 8.2.2 of the QECM v4.

After previously advising contractors to use conduit sleeved over the cable with the address marked on it with sharpie, they have now deemed this, along with various other methods, as no longer suitable.

To ensure your connection goes ahead MEA urges you to use the following product as it has been confirmed for use.

Commonly referred to as a Telstra Tag / CAN-TAG 97/104, are available in packs of 100 from most electrical wholesalers and some online stores.

The street address needs to be legibly written on the tag and must be attached to the consumer mains cable using both mounting holes with cable ties.
