The Queensland Government is giving first-year apprentices in construction, plumbing, and electrical trades a helping hand with a $4 million tool rebate program.
The “Free Tools for First Years” program reimburses eligible apprentices for up to $1,000 worth of industry-relevant tools purchased since January 1st, 2024. This aims to ease the financial burden for those starting their trades careers.

Who is eligible?
- Active first-year apprentices in Queensland
- Enrolled in a construction, plumbing, or electrical trade (see a list on the program website)
- Began their apprenticeship on or after January 1, 2024
- Completed their mandatory probationary period
- Have receipts or invoices for industry-relevant tools purchased
- Remain actively enrolled in their apprenticeship at the time of claiming
Claiming the rebate
Applications are made online and require:
- Photo ID
- Training contract registration number
- Receipts/invoices for tool purchases (showing item, cost, and date)
- Bank account details
Important information
- This is a one-time rebate program.
- Funds are limited, so submit your claim as soon as possible.
- Allow up to 20 business days for processing after a complete claim is submitted.
