The “Free Tools for First Years” program reimburses eligible apprentices for up to $1,000 worth of industry-relevant tools purchased since January 1st, 2024. This aims to ease the financial burden for those starting their trades careers.

Who is eligible?

  • Active first-year apprentices in Queensland
  • Enrolled in a construction, plumbing, or electrical trade (see a list on the program website)
  • Began their apprenticeship on or after January 1, 2024
  • Completed their mandatory probationary period
  • Have receipts or invoices for industry-relevant tools purchased
  • Remain actively enrolled in their apprenticeship at the time of claiming

Claiming the rebate

Applications are made online and require:

  • Photo ID
  • Training contract registration number
  • Receipts/invoices for tool purchases (showing item, cost, and date)
  • Bank account details

Important information

  • This is a one-time rebate program.
  • Funds are limited, so submit your claim as soon as possible.
  • Allow up to 20 business days for processing after a complete claim is submitted.
