New Electrical Safety Licensing System Coming in November
The current electrical licensing system is being upgraded to enhance user experience and streamline the process of managing your electrical licence. This modernised system, set to launch in November 2024, will enable you to apply for and oversee your electrical licence entirely online.
What Does This Mean for You?
The Electrical Safety Office is transitioning from paper-based forms to digital applications. This shift will alter the submission process for your licence applications. Start preparing now by setting up your myGovID, which will be essential for accessing the new online licensing system for renewals or new applications.
You can be prepared by creating your digital identity before 11 November 2024.
For those who already hold licenses, ensure that the email address associated with your myGovID matches the one linked to your electrical work licence record. Once your identity is confirmed via myGovID, your licence record will be connected to your myGovID. To update the email address on your licence record, visit the Electrical Licence Portal.
Understanding myGovID
myGovID is your digital identity, used to verify your identity online. It allows access to various government online services. You can also download the myGovID app to your smart device for added convenience.
Already Have myGovID?
If you already possess a myGovID and remember your login credentials, please verify that your email address matches the one associated with your electrical work licence record. To update your email address, visit the Electrical Licence Portal. If you’ve forgotten your password, visit the myGovID website to reset it promptly.
Setting Up a New myGovID
The Electrical Safety Office recommend setting up your myGovID now to be ready for the upcoming system change in November 2024. You will need a smart device and a personal email address to set up myGovID. Note that the app is restricted to users aged 15 and older. Follow these three steps to set up your myGovID:
- Download the app.
- Enter your details.
- Choose your identity strength, with the minimum requirement being ‘standard’ to ensure strong identity protection.
Paying for your electrical licence applications
The ESO has updated the payment options for electrical licence applications.
The new system uses BPoint for all electrical licence applications. A credit or debit card is needed for this online process and payment will be made instantly via BPoint (a secure online payment system supported by the Commonwealth Bank).
It is important to check and remove any previous and re-occurring or past setup BPay payment details for online renewals with your banking or financial institution to avoid any payment errors and delays in processing your renewal application.
If you are unable to use or access the online payment facilities, please contact ESO directly to discuss other payment options.
Contact ESO via email on lps@oir.qld.gov.au; or by phone on 300 632 993 (between 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday), remember to have your licence number ready.
ESO have stated that the new electrical licensing system is their preferred system for licence renewals or applications, however it is understood that some licence holders will not have online access. In such cases, they are encouraged to contact ESO directly to discuss other options available.
