Master Electricians Australia (MEA) has welcomed renewed efforts by LG to up the ante on their efforts to reach consumers who may be affected by the solar storage battery recall.
The battery company this week committed to the ACCC an enforceable undertaking to increase efforts to alert and protect consumers who may have the faulty products installed on their property.
MEA Chief Executive Officer Kate Raymond said the collaboration between LG and the ACCC should reassure homeowners of the strong safety-first approach within the industry.
“MEA is urging consumers to check if they have an LG solar battery affected by the recall and if they do to immediately switch it off and contact LG,” Ms Raymond said.
“Consumers can head to the LG website to check which batteries and systems are part of the recall and the company has agreed to replace or refund consumers who are impacted.
“There simply is no substitute for safety when it comes to electrical equipment and we welcome LG committing to a widespread advertising campaign to alert consumers.
“Households should feel reassured that the regulator and one of the largest suppliers of solar batteries are working closely to reach every possible consumer who could be impacted by the recall. It underlines the safety first approach within the industry.”
“For any other electrical safety work, we urge consumers to only use qualified tradespeople and they can do this by contacting Master Electricians directly.”
Consumers can check if their solar battery is affected by visiting https://www.lgessbattery.com/au and following the prompts or by reading the ACCC instructions at https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/lg-undertakes-to-take-more-steps-to-locate-and-fix-dangerous-solar-batteries.
